I have a question to current dental students at Tufts. I am looking for an apartment that is located near Tufts dental in Boston. Do u guys recommend any apartments that are located near the school?
And I have another question to those who have lived in a dorm at Tufts. How nice is the dorm? Do they have workout facilities at Tufts?

I also would like to know the above questions.
Also where are the classes held? Are the didactic classes mostly held in the 7th floor auditorium?

I live in the dorm. It's ok. About as good as dorming gets, except it's a little annoying to live with people taking all the same classes as you. I try to get out as often as possible. There is a workout room in the basement.

The Metropolitan seems rather popular for students here. It's actually slightly closer to school than the dorm, if that's possible. They are also building a new apartment complex a block away, but it's really expensive. Well, most things are. Look for apartments near Boston Common or Chinatown, and that will be within 4ish blocks of school. I can't recommend any apartments, since I've never been in any of them. Personally, I want to get away from the school next year, and will be looking for an apartment that's a short T ride away.

Pretty much all of our lecture courses are held in the 7th floor auditorium. Sometimes you'll be in that room from 9-12 and then 1-5. Aaaah, Merritt. Otherwise, we have a few lectures and preclin up on the 8th floor.

studying:
most people study in the dorms. it's all fellow dental students (med students on other floors), so everyone's pretty anal about studytime. I personally can't stand to study here, so I wander off to other schools' libraries, etc. It's weird living with a bunch of people and taking all the same classes.

shared common area:
pretty nice. pool table, ping pong, vending machines that don't always work. Nice tv and new dvd player. Plus a little study alcove. The day after exams, the room gets pretty taken over by beer pong.

cleanliness:
there's a staff that cleans the bathrooms and kitchens every day. basically, everything's as clean as the people who you share it with. My floor is actually kind of slobby, and there are dirty dishes in the sinks at all times. Such is life in dorms!

rooms:
pretty big. Same size as my double room in the dorms in undergrad. Everyone gets their own room. They somewhat separate the sides of the halls into a girls' side and guys' side, just due to proximity of the respective bathrooms. The rooms come with A/C, which is wonderful on those hot days. You'll want to bring your own rug, the floors are just bare and cold.

overall, the dorm's pretty good. Nice proximity to school, close to the subway. Chinatown's an interesting neighbourhood to live in, and you're close to downtown and everything.

hope that helps, let me know if you need to know anything else!

I am a senior and have lived in boston for 4 years. I never lived in the dorms but its ok if you want to live somewhere cheap and close to school. Some people are pissed off that people get loud at night and some people party all 7 nights.. atleast thats how it was when i was a freshman... also you get somewhat segregated to the "dorm crew" ... if you can afford to live in boston there are 3 complexes within blocks of the dental school. They are the Metropolitan, Boylston on the park, and a new complex that opens this summer. Rent at those places ranges from 1000-1500 for a studio/ 1 bed. There are other more expensive options a few blocks further on Tremont ave. There are also cheaper options a few subway stops away. PM me with any other questions as I dont really come on this forum too often.

Hi, just a quick question about the dorm
I got the packet and it told me to send a 450 dollar check with the app if i want to live in the dorm.
I am just wondering if I can get that 450 back if i chang my mind later???

I'm not sure about that. You'll have to call Student Services for that info!

Good luck!

Could you recommend the safe/fine areas which are some subway stops away? I'm trying to search on the web, but can't figure out which area(Beacon Hill, E. Boston, S. Boston, etc..) is close enough to the school.
