I finally submitted my AACOMAS (on 12/28).

I should preface this by saying that I am applying to both MD and DO schools and that I chose to submit applications to MD schools first not due to preference, but because they have earlier deadlines. I'm married and I have to work full time to pay for school, so money was a HUGE issue in this applications process. To afford all the schools that I wanted to apply to, I had to space it out, and this is the only way I could make it work for me. I work with both MD's and DO's every single day, and I have no preference one way or the other. Both types of schools have positive and negative aspects that have been debated to death on this site, and that is not what I am after with this post.

My questions are: how much will this effect my chances for admission into osteopathic schools? Do you think that they will view me as one of the applicants that is applying to DO schools "just in case"? If I'm fortunate enough to get an interview, do you think they will ask about this? I am especially interested in Midwestern in Arizona, and I almost didn't make their deadline, do I still have a chance there? I know I have tons of questions and I would really appreciate some input!

Thanks in advance

"Since no one else seems to be saying it, I will: Yikes, you're late!

Today is 1/2...

+4 weeks (minimum) for AACOMAS (and that's IF they have all your transcripts)
+3 more weeks for schools to process you and send out secondaries
+2 weeks for you to finish and send in secondaries (and that's IF you have all your LORs ready to go out the door)
+4 weeks for them to consider you for an interview.

I think that these are pretty pared down time estimates, so bare minimum you're looking at April before you know about interviews. I'd look at the application deadlines, and you can see that you're cutting it really close. Likely you'll be applying for a waitlist spot. By the time you're sending hearing back about secondaries, it will be almost time for next year's cycle to begin, and you could be starting then, and hitting it REALLY early, and giving yourself a great shot. I would wait and save the money, and give yourself a realistic shot. If you start the process June 1st of next cycle, you'll probably be accepted by September, and I'm not kidding."

AZCOM's deadline is 01/02/06...which means they should have AACOMAS/primary app by then. Did you send in aacomas 12/28..or did AACOMAS send the primary app to AZCOM by 01/02/06?

In short? A lot. Many schools seem to pretty much start interviewing for waitlist spots after winter break. I don't want to totally shoot you down, but you did yourself a disservice. Make sure to do really well on your secondaries, and stay on top of the schools, making sure they're looking at your application.
