I am an 18 year old senior in highschool but I will graduate with my AA from a community college. Now I am 2yrs ahead technically. I am worried about taking the DAT because the community college has not challenged me enough. If I were to take it in a year I think I would not at all be prepared. I am majoring in biology and still haven't taken biology 2. Now i am in physics which you don't even need for the DAT. The school counselors are no help. What courses should I take in the next two years to really prepare me? How high in the math sequence should I go?

You're gonna need Ochem, biology, genetics, and perhaps a little anatomy ( i had an anatomy question on my DAT). Any challenging biology classes after these will help strengthen your knowledge. As far as math, you only need to get to trig. Good luck

IMO, genetics and anatomy are overkill. I only had 1 question on my DAT about genetics and it was one you could solve easily with the little genetics that is covered in Bio 1. I did not have _any_ anatomy on my DAT. Physiology and Biochem would probably be your best bets if you are looking to take some upper division Bio classes before taking it.

That being said, I took the DAT with the bare minimum (Bio 1 & 2, Gen chem 1 & 2, Orgo 1 & 2) and got 20's.

Anatomy is def overkill, esp for 1 question. As far as genetics, my genetics course covered a lot of microbiology as well as genetics. It's true you won't have any really difficult genetics questions, but intimate knowledge of chromosomes and how they work can be useful on the dat. Right on with biochem, although i didnt take it and still scored 23+ on the science sections. I think it just depends on the person.
