The various applications ask whether or not we have been convicted of, plead guilty or no contest to, etc. for criminal charges including misdemeanors.

My question is that a while back (~2 years or so) I had a disorderly conduct thing I had gone through but it was expunged from my record before I started applying to schools. My understanding is that since it is expunged it is considered as though it did not happen and when I come across a question such as this I should answer No, I have not been convicted of . . . etc.

Am I correct in this understanding or am I supposed to answer differently?

IF it was expunged, you can legally answer NO to these questions.

If it's really something you're worried about you can pay for the same background check that your med school will see, but it's not something I'd personally worry about.

Expunged means just that: to strike or blot out; erase; obliterate.

You paid your debt to society and in return society deemed you no longer needed that blemish on your record. Apply as you normally would. Others, with no knowledge of the legal system, will try to tell you otherwise on here. It cannot legally be held against you in any facet of your professional or personal life... ever.

Just make sure it doesn't have a clause stating that it should be stated even if expunged. I swear I've seen that somewhere..... Might be wrong, but it's bothering me so I thought I'd say it.

I am working on another secondary application at the moment and it states:

Have you ever been convicted in any state or country of:
any offense where the records have been expunged or sealed;

If I legally do not need to state whether or not I have had something expunged, but this question is asking for expunged records as well, do I need to answer yes to this question? Seems a little odd to me.

Oh and thanks for all the responses and help, I appreciate it.
