Hey everyone,

Just curious what your opinions are for the chances of a male applicant, married, 30 years old, with a 3.4 GPA, 17 AA DAT, strong LOR's, lots of community service, good leadership qualities, down to earth type guy are getting into one of the Florida Schools
I am relocating down to Florida shortly because of my family and I would love to attend one of the dental schools.
Thanks in advance. 😳

you should probably retake your DATs. you basically need 18+ across the board to get in nowadays...

Yeah...I would agree. You should retake the DAT and aim for over an 18...preferrably a 20. It's not that hard to get it up a couple more points.

I agree with the above. Retake your DAT and get your AA and TS to at least a 19. If you can get 20+ I'd say you will have a great shot.

You will soon find out that the application process totally sucks!!!! The most stressful thing I have done since I can remember. The better your base stats are, the easier the whole process will be (mentally). Trust me on this. I'm not saying you can't get in on an AA of 17. People do it all the time but your ride to D-School will be so much smoother if you score high. Dec 1st will actually mean something for you, unlike my case in which it came and went with no "Christmas letter"!

Good luck.

UF has the shadiest way of picking people. I got rejected there with really good stats and application and i'm instate, and people got in with weak stats and application. they are very biased there so if you arent EXACTLY what they are looking for you are screwed. however, ive been accepted to tougher schools than UF, which goes to show.

i find it funny when anybody blames a "random selection process" when they don't get into a school they thought they would. won't somebody please step up and say "huh, i didn't get in... i guess i wasn't one of the best applicants" and stop making excuses! as one of those applicants with "weaker stats" let me be the first to tell you that it's not just numbers people!

with many things in life... just because you don't undertstand it doesn't make it random.

First... I agree with DL. UF's acceptance policy is FAR from shady. It is my opinion that they truly look at the applicant as a WHOLE vs numbers.

I did not interview at Nova, so I have nothing to say here.

To answer the OP's original question... Do I think you can get in with your figures.... Yes. Would I risk it... No.

If you start now you could have a new DAT score that is better in time for the next cycle.

To DL.... I am so sad....
