I began my personal statement today, and thought about writing about those people who have shaped my life...in particularly my parents. The qualities I learned from them (lets leave out the bad ones), and how they shaped my desire to be a dentist. Is this too mushy? Will adcoms feel I rather should have handed this to my parents? I'm starting to have second thoughts about this...
Thanks!

sure, do it, as long as you can tie that stuff into dentistry somehow. if you simply write about how your parents made you a good person or something cheezy and irrelevant like that, don't bother.

That sounds fine to me. As was said before just make sure you CLEARLY make the connection between your parents influence and how it relates to dentistry.
