hello everybody,

for those who filled the fafsa for med school. should I write that I am staying ON or OFF campus? (the med school I will be attending does not have students living on campus). I would say that I am living on campus but I am afraid that this would lessen the amount of money or aid that I would be given especially that I will be renting an apartment even though not staying on campus.

I would appreciate your inputs. Thanks guys in advance.

If it doesn't have students on campus then why would you say that you are living on campus? The school's preliminary cost of attendance will be based on what you say on your FAFSA, but if things change then your cost of attendance will change.

if I do not say I live on campus then aren't they going to give me just a package/aid that may not cover the cost of rent or an apartment and then I would have to take private loans for that... just wondering.

please share your opinions. Thank you

If you list off-campus, the budget you will be alloted will include living expenses and rent as well as tution, fees and books. The schools approximate monthly apartment rental rates in the their surrounding area. If you list on-campus, they will give you a budget for someone living in the dorms or campus housing. In many cases, the budget for off campus housing is larger than on campus, though not always. You should not have to take out private loans if you live on or off- campus, although they are slightly different budgets, they are often reasonable. You can borrow up to your school's COA, cost of attendance, from the Stafford and GradPlus loans. Only if you go over your COA will you need to borrow from private loans. Good Luck.
