do they REQUIRE organic chemistry?? i took a chemistry class called introduction to chemisty for health sciences and was then told i needed these two other classes but not the one i took for my undergraduate degree. so now i have 15 chemistry credit hours but no organic chem. it is all inorganic chemistry. any help??

thanks!

Unfortunatey Organic Chemistry is required by all medical schools, including UHS. UHS also requires that you take a class in Genetics and Biochem in addition to the genetics and biochem taught in General Bio.

If I were in your situation, I would call UHS, and tell them about your situation and see what they say. Their admission staff is extremely helpful and friendly!

Good luck!

unforunately you do not know what you are talking about, i have contacted them and you are wrong.

Dude, that was an extremely crass reply to some one who was trying to help you out. As a matter of fact 1 year of G chem with lab, 1 year of Physics with lab, 1 year of O-chem with lab and Bio with lab are the bare minium requirements for most medical schools in this country.

yes, so? i appreciate help, but if you do not know, then dont answer... i do realize that organic is the bare min for MOST schools but i specifically asked about uhs... if you do not know something for sure, dont get a for sure answer. im not asking much here.

I agree with docgeorge that was pretty crass!! She was only trying to help. In general every school requires the basics docgeorge said. The only exception is that some schools will allow you to use biochem in place of one semester of OCHEM. Also you need OCHEM for the MCAT.

dont ask any stupid questions next time then

DO_messneger,
Do us all a favor, do not come on here and ask questions that you can find the answer to yourself, but if you do, treat everyone with the respect they deserve for taking the time to help you find the answer to questions such as yours.

Most medical schools require OChem. I would be very surprised if UHS was any different. Chill-out and find the answers yourself next time.

Why don't you get your lazy a$$ off of SDN and call the school yourself if you want such a FOR SURE answer and since you seem to know what every school requires why did you ask the question??

And if I remember correctly, SHE DID ANSWER THE QUESTION!! 🙄

check out the aacomas web site for the requirements

www.aacom.org

UHSCOM has the following requirements:
15 hours of Biology/Zoology
16 hours total of inorganic and organic (3hours must be biochemistry)

8 hours physics
6 hours English

Not sure how you would get out of ochem 1&2

If you don't trust this then call the school.

the aacomas website has lots of good info.

Isn't general chem 1&2 worth (most of the time) - 7 hours
and ochem 1&2 worth 8 hours?

owell goodluck

You might want to work on your attituide, the one you have is'nt going to jive with most people at UHS. Some of the nicest people I met are at UHS or will be there next year. I hope they smell this bad attidue of yours at your interview.
