Hey guys, just a quick question. I got C's in both Orgo I and II and I was just wondering if it's acceptable to retake both courses at a community college and would it be a grade replacement when applying to DO schools? Only reason i'm not considering taking it at my school is because I don't really want to spend around 4 grand on orgo. Just curious, thanks!

Yes, you can. Just make sure the courses at the CC are the same number of credits or higher. Also, try your best to get an A.

Acceptable at most, but there are a few that look down on such or "highly recommend" taking courses at 4yr college or university. Look at the schools you are highly interested in attending and make sure. If you make A's, have a strong gpa and do well on the MCAT you should be fine.

@DrMikeP and @Tr1LL

so I looked at the community college course offerings over this summer and I found the Organic chemistry I and II lectures and I spoke with my dean at my university and she said these are the equivalents and will transfer over. But the main concern I found is that Orgo I and II are each 4 credits are Rutgers, but at the CC they are listed each as 3 credits. The reason I think is because at Rutgers the extra 1 credit comes from a recitation that is included with the course. Would this still be acceptable with DO schools or no? Thanks for all the help

Yes, most med schools will say something like Required: 8 credit hours of Organic Chemistry and labs are required. They don't care how you get what is needed, so they are fine with more than 8. Just be aware that some MD and to memory one or two DO progs might balk at CC courses, so you might look up particular programs you are interested in to make sure.
