Hi everyone, just a real quick question. As a traditional USA med student, will a "Pass" on your first psych rotation as a M3 really lower your chances of getting a good psych residency? (ended up doing really bad on the psych shelf exam that's required at the end of the rotation due to a horrible headache).

Thanks.

You can make up for it with a good elective grade and a convincing psych letter or two.

Hard to say without more information. If you want a general answer, I would say that we would be willing to overlook it depending on how good the rest of the application looks.

Don't worry. 🙂

I also got a Pass on my Psych M3 rotation due solely to scoring the national mean on the shelf, despite having Honors for my psych clinical grade. In my school you could only get a high pass if you scored much higher than the mean even if your clinical grade was honors. Was a big bummer. But I ended up at a great program. So don't worry as long as you make up for it in your elective and strong letters like OldPsychDoc said.

No. You are an american grad who is interested in psychiatry.

Thank you everyone for the feedback (nice feedbacks at that)!
