okay so im preparing for this upcoming application cycle and just finishing up the PS, but i need some help.

I really liked this quote that talked about happiness being equated with smiles and i thought it would be a nice way to start off my PS, but somebody who was editing it for me said that it is not a good way to start because it is taken from the internet. is that true?

also on a side note, do the people who read the PS first process it through something like turnitin.com where they can detect if any part of your PS is plagiarized weather it be from previous students or online?

thanks a bunch 🙂

I would not take anything from someone elses personal statement. That is why it is called personal statement.

As far as a quote goes I would cite it. so and so stated " dafoafeja" or "aofijeaf" (so and so).

I would not put a quote in the personal statement unless you live by it and it really helps give insight into who you are or what you are about but that is just me.

Be careful because the personal statement is important and so is honesty 👍

That sounds like you are 100% using someone else's work. If not, why would you even wonder/be concerned with something like that?

I used a quote from Mountains Beyond Mountains and I got in. I would think it is okay to use a quote as long as you can contribute it to somebody

I had originally started my PS off with a quote but then read in mutiple places that you shouldn't do that. Kind of cliche I guess.

the quote came from mother Theresa and i said that it came from her, which is what im referring to. is that fine?

just a bit after that, i found like a "commentary" on that quote on PS of somebody's and i liked so i just rephrased it lol that is why im mentioning software like turnitin.com
