What's the consensus on using quotes to describe certain activities.

For example... I volunteered for a bit @ Give Kids the World, an ext. of Disney whose guests are children w/ life-threatening illnesses. Our group received a really great email from one of the children's Mom just thanking us and telling us we made an impact in her fight against cancer. It was printed in one of the newsletters that followed... I would like to use it, but I didn't know if this was taboo.

What's the point? To show that someone was grateful for the service you provided. Does that motivate you? Will you be as motivated if you aren't praised for your hard work but insulted for not doing enough or for failing to live up to a family's expectations? In medicine, not everyone will be grateful for what you've done for them.

or to point out one of my major motivations for pursuing medicine - making a difference in the lives of others.

granted the quote is a positive one, but i figured it would give a reviewer a better understanding of the source of my own motivations.

but i do see your point. suppose i'll leave it out.
