Rad onc/nuc med

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
No, but Radiology/Nuc Med does exist.

On paper you'd think there would be significant overlap between Rad Onc & Nuc Med but the above two are much more closely related.

Although a turf war exists for unsealed source administration, with either specialty having control depending on which part of the country, or which hospital system they practice in

penn has one.

I think it would be a signficant conflict of interest if the oncologic physician ordering a $8-10k test was also interpreting it and receiving the professional +/- technical fee.

On a side note, one of the community hospitals I work with orders PET-CTs on every patient with breast cancer. I had two DCIS patients that had PET-CTs as part of their work up.

A T1N0 pt might be questionable, but DCIS? 😱

Wade Thorstad at Wash U is both Rad Onc and Nuc Med guy.

One other issue is ABR will not allow you to be board certified in both, so you have to get Rad Onc via ABR, and Nuc Med via ABNM.

I considered doing this at one time, and would have had our Radiology program been more amenable to the idea...
