The first of many, Im sure...

how did Miami send out rejections? via e-mail or snail mail
thx

snail mail. They also commented that they had recieved a "record number" of applications this year..do they always say stuff like that in rejections to make you feel better? Or does this really mean that there may be a record number of applicants 😕 😱 :luck:

ive been rejected by some of the best places in the country.

yeah..but everything certainly turned out ok for you Steph 😉 Hey Steph, do you happen to have any *cough* 'sure knowledge' that applications are up to "record numbers?" :scared: I was of course expecting some rejections, but that was the only part of the letter that really got my heart pumping 🙁

i don't know yet.
to be honest its probably too early to tell; im sure its just a letter they printed in anticipation of a high application rate. dont get to literal with them. We know the dates for our interviews (3, two days interview session) but its not announced yet.

many more to come for sure

My $0.02,

We haven't experienced a "record number" of apps here. The quality remains excellent, but the actual numbers have been higher in previous years.

Whatever you do, DO NOT lose any sleep over hidden meanings in departmental communications. You're going to find that even in rad onc there is a nice Gaussian (okay, maybe a little right-shifted) distribution of applicants, with small pools of exceptional and marginal applicants, and a huge morass of strong applicants. It creates a situation where many programs have to reject a significant portion of these strong applicants, and gives you a sense that there is a lot of randomness to the process. That's why the critical first step is applying widely to maximize your odds of landing a sufficient number of interviews. If you have done that, and can interview without manifesting some kind of pervasive personality disorder, chances are you'll be just fine.

Yale 👎
New Haven sucks anyway. 😴
(i must rationalize all my rejections to deal with the sadness)

Son of a...why did yale have to send me two rejection messages? Way to rub it in:scared:

i guess yale really means it. oh well, it will be a funny story to tell them when they're asking you to join their practice (and a certain program out there knows what I'm talking about).

I got two from them two years ago! It's becoming tradition, I guess.

I'll trade my snubs for your snubs! Congrats on doing so well so far..😀

they are interviewing non MD PHD's. I would not worry too much about a rejection here and there. You cannot get an interview everywhere.

I'm with you, Cobalt campadre. I have 12 interview invitations, but was rejected by Fox Chase. Fox Chase is a bit of a creepy place anyways.😀

Its funny, I haven't gotten a heck of a lot of interviews but only one rejection (Yale, double e-mailed me too) from those that are sending them out right now.

I guess programs are thinking of me as tweener...not good enough for interviews right now but not someone they want to reject just yet. weird.

disregard my last post... 😀

Got rejects from Fox Chase and Miami today by mail.

One trend I've noticed is that if a place is giving out interviews and your Dean's letter hasn't been downloaded yet it's probably a rejection. Vanderbilt and Mayo-Jax are my "assumed" rejections based on that criteria. Although without a PhD vandy was probably a given anyway.

I got an interview invite to Jax and they haven't even downloaded my MSPE either..so I wouldn't be too sure about your theory, there may still be hope. Who knows.

My rejections (4) are catching up to my interviews (5).
They tried to make me feel better, talking about how i was one of the 130 highly competitive applicants they had apply for their one spot. 130 just for Ohio state. That doesnt quite make me feel any better about my chances of matching.

Hope you're right...I'm having a crummy week so the glass is half empty right now....step 2 tomorrow also... :barf:

well, I have an interview at Vandy but they haven't downloaded my MSPE or last two recommendations yet either.... I suspect they're waiting until they start their second round of interviews and will download all the files at that point.

Invitations to interview have been offered via telephone calls to the selected individuals. Letters of appreciation have been mailed to all applicants.

Just received the above somewhat cryptic rejection email from Mayo. My first. . . 🙁

my first reaction was, wtf ?

Aside from being cryptic, I don't even know which "Mayo" it's from...

It has to be Rochester, MN since that's the only one I applied to. The info was as follows: [email protected], Subject: Radiation Oncology-Mayo.

Certainly a poorly worded email. . . very odd.

Mayo

their title should have been "so you think you can interview at Mayo" rather than "Rad Onc Mayo!"

double whamming 2 minutes apart!

👎 email 🙁

👍 Congrats Fly and others who got invites there :luck:

Are any of you guys applying to other residencies as well in addition to Rad Onc? Such as, say, internal medicine or something? Kinda like a backup? Considering how competitive it is to do rad onc is it common practice to apply to something else as backup?

P.S. Just wondering, how many of you guys are AOA? =P

Rad Onc or bust!!!

Hey ND- Apparently MDACC is only inviting 28 people for 5 spots according to the invite email from a friend that wasn't rejected like me! 😀

Case Western 👎

I am starting to feel why this process is so random. So many highs and lows...

👎 yeah this process does have a lot of highs and lows...

How did Florida notify? I can't wait to get the "great" news.... [sigh]🙁

Yeah, their freaking rejection email has the subject title of "interview info", and was intentionally deceiving as if they are extending you an interview, and then they smack you with "regret" and bs like that.

I thought that was pretty cheap as well😡 I've been in a dry spell for a couple of weeks and was excited when I saw "interview" in a subject line..not cool!

"we have decided to go with an applicant whose qualifications more precisely
match our requirements."

What is that supposed to mean? What "requirements" would these be? I wish I had known before I wasted my money that they required things I didnt have on my application. 😕
