So with the destruction of rad onc facilities at NYU by Sandy, this will be the second time in recent memory a department has had major losses due to flooding. UTMB lost all their machines to Ike a few years ago if I remember correctly.
I was wondering if any departments actually have contingency plans for catastrophes that can do this kind of damage. In these situations: What happens to the residents? How quickly can machines be replaced? Can an argument be made for not having the rad onc department underground and thus avoiding flood risk to some of the most expensive machines in the hospital? Do any departments have waterproof vaults? Are there any rad onc departments that are are above the first floor or basement?
