Can someone please explain to me how I can tell if something (like Br2 or NBS) will add anti-Markovnikov?

I thought I'd figured out but I'm not sure anymore. HBr/ROOR, Br2/hv ????

And also, does it differ for alkanes, alkenes and aromatics? Thanks for any help!

peroxides make it add anti-M

ONLY peroxides? all other times I see Br2 or HBr it will be Markovnikov favoring the most stable radical? (i think though that when it can go benzyllic it goes there though-- right?)
