Oooooh see? It kinda hurts when you see something like that in a thread. In fact, I'll probably get in trouble for this thread, I'll probably get called a racist, or bigot, or white supremisist. But I'm guessing it'll get over a thousand views.

I would never want to rally my fellow whites, because I don't see color, and also because my girlfriend who is a URM would probably break up with me for doing so. So for you URMs out there who like to rally each other, realize that you are being just as exclusionary as I was, and my post was fake!

I sometimes use the podiatry forums as my "pimp shack" due to its low key location and infrequent traffic.

However, it seems that all this AA/URM/Let's Fight talk is splling over from the Everyone forums into the Pre-MD forums.

I am willing to make the ultimate sacrifice.......... I will give up my podiatry forums (yes, I am as shocked as you all are) if all AA/URM discussions take place in there.

Whaddya say? 🙄

There's a podiatry forum?😱

Rallying my fellow URM's...i don't understand why this would be viewed as offensive. also, i don't find the title of your thread offensive. if you want to show support for others who you may identify with more closely, then hey, more power to ya. i didn't start that thread, but i contribute to it and i thought it was helpful. there are people out there who i haven't seen on the boards for weeks/months. it was good to see how people were doing, who's in where, and having everybody supporting each other. there are other urm's (which isn't a color) in sdn land that i have a lot of overlap with in terms of schools we've applied to, and experiences we've had during this whole application process.

all in all, the reason i found that thread valuable was because it was based on support and everyone there (mostly) was very supportive and encouraging, i love that. a lot of other threads on sdn seem so negative or narrow minded so i found that pretty refreshing. anyways, just letting you know the thread wasn't meant to bring on feelings of exclusion - just some focused positivity.

good luck to everyone still waiting on acceptances!!

the difference is that you don't need to 'rally' your fellow whites

on average, most people who reply to your messages will be white....that's white it requires a special thread to ask for URM students to reply.....it doesn't seem to hard to understand that URM students might be dealing with some similar application related issues - for instance, I might post something for Florida residents or graduate students applying to med school....in other words, a post for other applicants who meet some special criteria that, on average, the standard SNDer won't have

Those threads usually talk about which school has the most diversity (code word: which schools lower their standards the most for URMs) and which schools are the most friendly toward URMs (again, see above).

I don't mind the threads if they actually produced something. But I hear all of this "I strive for excellence" crap yet in the next thread they argue that they deserve lower standards because of "200 years of oppression". The two statements do not add up. I just wish those rally threads would actually rally URMs into getting off the crack cocaine known as Affirmative Action.

Wow...all these AA threads....must be AA week....

Why do these threads have the "white vs black" tone? What about the other URMs/ORMs?

I hope you meant "Rallying my fellow ORMs!"...

so what is the purpose of this thread? to encourage the bitter to post remarks such as the one above? to cultivate negative stereotypes of minorities for reasons that one cannot admit to having because one has to put up a facade of political correctness?
when you go out to the big world and meet and interact with all these groups of people, do you show the face congruent to your rhetoric?

How about we turn this into a forum for people that are oppose to AA to discuss alternative solutions to the lack of diversity in the medical profession? I would think that the opponents of the institution surely wouldn't want to go to medical school where all of the other students are from the same cultural background. I would be enthralled to hear some solutions to the problem other than it's not fair, URMs should do better on the MCAT, or study more in school. Those really aren't solutions, because many of us (URMs) do study extremely hard, but still fall short of your expectations.

I'm with you brother, Texas lets rally the white man, white power!

hold on, wait a minute, i'm not white. sorry

DITTO!!!🙄

WHo else is overrepresented in US med schools that can be considered an ORM??????? I'd like an answer to that. Everyone except whites consider themselves URM's correct?

For Heaven's Sake.............have we not had enough of this foolishness ?🙄

While there really is little need for exclusionary posts/clubs based on race, this sort of touches on a good point.

I get frustrated and upset by the fact that the celebration of white culture and heritage is considered not PC and is even considered racist by some. Many whites try to find a culture to identify with but society does not allow them to. In my region, there is a large number of people of Scandinavian and Italian descent. These people have their own family traditions, stories, history, names, ambitions, etc., just like non-white groups. It bothers me to hear young people, especially girls from the ages of 13-18, denying their heritage in an effort to belong to something. A few weeks ago, I overheard an argument in a mall between four girls, two of whom were white, one who appeared to be of Hispanic descent, and one who was Asian. The two white girls, both who had blonde hair and blue eyes and were obviously of Scandinavian or Germanic origin, were claiming to be Latin and Asian because of very distant relatives who married into the family and were of those races. There is no cultural identity for most whites these days. It is sad, because we should be proud of our ancestry and race just as much as minority groups are. My family came over from Ireland to escape the potato famine near the turn of the century. They had nothing but what they could carry in a trunk, which still sits in our basement. To not remember and celebrate that part of my history is a disgrace to them.

My university has school-sponsored and funded clubs for every minority group, ethnicity, international students, sexual orientations, and even women, who are a majority group at the school and colleges across America. Some students tried to start both an organization for men and a Scandinavian student cultural center. Both were denied by the university and were considered insensitive.

Also, whites are URMs, if you define this as a percentage of white medical students and applicants being significantly lower than the U.S. population that is white. Asians are so heavily OR that it makes all other races statistically URM.
