Does anyone know how long admissions committees spend looking at our applications and reading our personal statements? It seems to me that we put so much time into making sure that our personal statement and application is perfect, but in reality there are so many applications, so how much time can they spend on each person? And if they only skim our personal statement, why do we go through such hell to write the perfect one?

I am just stressing. This whole cycle has me going insane!!

At one of my interveiws they told us they spent 5 minutes on each secondary application. Kinda crazy to think that when you realize how much you stressed and how much time you spent perfecting it! I say its best not to even worry about these things cuz it doesnt really do much but stress you out and get you angry about the system. Its better to just go with the flow, do what they ask, and laugh about it later when you are trying to decide between your multiple acceptances.

Question I had too. I've been trying to format my PS in my head, and by the time I have it all completed it'll add up to hours upon hours.

And if this is for a secondary, the primary has to be a very small fraction of that 5 minutes...ten seconds maybe 😕 .

Although probably for the secondary it might be referred to more, especially if one is waiting on an alternative list. For adcoms trying to get a better feel for a candidate, they will probably look to see who may be a "better fit."
