Randomly doing USMLErx in the beginning of 2nd year

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was thinking about doing 10 random usmlerx questions everyday and just annotating it into first aid. 10 questions a day. Is it a good idea?

It really depends. If you try it and find it useful for you, screw what everyone else thinks and do you.

Personally, I'd wait to be able to study as "systems"

For instance, I assume starting second year you will probably be taking your "intro block" to pathology. Cell Death, inflammation etc.

You can start doing USMLERx by system as soon as you finish Heme/Onc (which we did in our intro block, also Neoplasia and MSK System)

Read Basic Robbins Chapter 11, do Rapid Review chapters 11-14 and boom thats heme/onc, and you can do the 280 question about it on USMLERx, which worked out well for me.

It would be harder to do say to MSK system by systems study while in class as you would also have to add, physiology, anatomy etc.

Heme/onc is really just Pathology +/- BRS Cell/Histo chapter on Hematapoesis.

After reading robbins and reviewing with goljan/doing the review of path questions and rapid review questions, the FA chapter on heme/oncwas a joke, and the USMLERx sure did help me memorize/become familiar with that section, even though it was no big deal since I knew a great great great deal more than it.

It's probably better to over learn, so you can forget just enough to be ready for boards 😛

Yeah, I think using one of the Qbanks along with classes is a great idea. I used Kaplan but Rx is fine too. Not sure why you would need to annotate much since it's based off FA and made by the same people, so theoretically not much to annotate.

Just make sure you really learn everything well. I think a Pathoma subscription early is a must. Watch the videos along with class until you know them cold. Review the book and make notes as needed. Helped a lot with classes during the year (it's amazing how convoluted some professors can make this stuff) and I don't think I missed any path questions at all on Step 1, so it was really helpful there too.
