On a range of 1-10,
1- being an absolute cake walk (super easy) 🙂
10- being the most difficult thing you've ever done 😱
How would you score being a dental student?

I'm a 2nd year @ Temple and honestly I'm thinking it's about a "9"

8 most of the time. Still early in the Dental School experience though.

1st year - 7
2nd year - 9.5 (still the worst year of my entire life)
3rd year - 5.5 - only because of scheduling nightmares and stupid exams.

Overall? I rate dental school an 8.

If undergrad was a 5 for volume and 5 for intellectual difficulty, I'd give dental school a 7 for volume, and a 3.5 for intellectual difficulty.

SC is a PBL program so that on the surface appears easier but if you are doing everything that you are supposed to and studying everything you need to it is much more difficult than one might think. I would say overall an 8 is about right.

Yeah, I second that. I spend so much time researching, writing learning needs, and prepping for case that I don't really have time to "study."

Sometimes I miss the days of locking myself in the library all day and straight memorizing a stack of power point presentations. 🙁

I'm also UC educated and my first year at D-school was not bad at all... But **** hits the fan next year... U'll see

D1- 5 (PBL gave us a lot of time out of class and it was chill)
D2- 7 (more lab work but the classes havent gotten harder, the real difference is I spend most of my time studying for boards which we are scheduled for in december)

I'd second this. There's a lot of material but none of it is really all that "hard". The "10" in my life would be what I did trying to get into d-school...

Looking back on D1, it should have been a 5-6 but it was more like a 7-8 during the experience.

D2 promises to be a solid 9.

Did you end up specializing? Or are you doing an AEGD? Just curious with the "Attending" classification, and your comment about almost flunking out.

I associated for 3 months and then opened my practice.

D1 - 4 not that bad for basic science classes , started drinking
D2 - 3 preclin really easy, didactic ok , more drinking
D3 - 3 busy but easy, completed most of my clinical requirements early, drinking and hanging out more with friends
D4 - 2 best year ever, a little bit of stress preparing for Wreb, got drunk almost every weekend

I do really miss dental school. had so much fun and lots great memories. I would do over again in a heart beat 😀😀😀

You guys make me feel like a whining little girl with your 3's and 4's... I've never had to study this much in my life. Granted I'm sitting on a 3.6 gpa... I opened this thread to make myself feel better, assuming everyone would say "10." That drastically backfired. LOL

My own personal experience at NYU:

D1: 4
D2: 6
Summer of D2 during boards: 7
D3 when we're first thrown to the clinics: 8, then after comfortable: 6
D4: 2 if you're good on requirements.... VERY stressful if you're not on track

I've definitely had a ****load of fun, I'm definitely having a ****load of fun, and I am definitely NOT looking forward to graduating....

D1 = 9-10 It's definitely the hardest I've studied in my education. Too much info all at once. It's about time management and not burning out. The material is not difficult but too much of it at a time is overwhelming. I envy those who rank D1 as 3-7. I really wish I felt that way.
