So after researching these forums this is my proposed study plan for Step II:

Kaplan Lecture Notes
Mcmumbi Podcasts
USMLEWorld

Is this good enough for a 240+ on Step II?

Comments welcome, thanks!

Not to highjack, but I also figure I ought to piggy-back on this thread ...

Peds/OBGYN: Blueprints
Surgery: NMS Casebook
IM: Step Up
Psych: Kaplan

Boards/Wards
Crush/Secrets

USMLEWorld

If you had a whole year to study for step 2, and you had an option of choosing between

  1. Boards & Wards
  2. Step 2 Secretes
Which one would you choose? By the way Boards and Wards is the only highly rated comprehensive book in First Aid 2ck. Step 2 secretes is only 200 pages???? Makes me nervous!!🙁

If you have a whole year, why not use both?

If I absolutely had to pick one, I would probably choose Secrets.

Also I am using and really like

Well I used only these things for Step 2 (although I didn't use much of McMumbi) and I thought it was great, so I would say it is definitely good enough for 240+. Depends a lot on how you did on your shelf exams, though. I highly recommend the Kaplan notes for step 2. Easy to read quickly and good, high yield info when combined with UW.

I know this may sound as a dumb question but are you suggesting that you use Kaplan Notes as we go along rotations or just the month before step 2? Thanks.

Is that Pestana surgery really a must? NMS Casebook is such a good read, and I really did well (90) on the surg shelf with just that and a few Pre-test questions. For step 2, the surgery stuff is fairly light too, so if the Pestana book is more in-depth, I would skip it. I also thought Crush/Secrets are nice for the surg-type subspecialties (Ophtho/ENT/etc)

Pestana notes are very brief, took me about 3-4 hours to read all of the vignettes. They are good review for the shelf, but even better for step 2 because the surg questions on step 2 are easier and more general.

How long are the Pestana notes? Are they sufficient for step 2?
