So why exactly is transcription slower than replication?

The gene is smaller than the whole genome.
The pol doesn't proofread or go back, so even better.
You can potentially make many copies of just this sequence.

I think the relative rate of transcription per base is slower then the replication rate due to the enzymes but the net replication should be longer
 
I just read about this somewhere right now:

The enzyme itself has slower kinetics than DNA polymerase and there are a lot of DNA Polymerases replicating the entire genome while there is only one RNA pol Complex transcribing the gene at one time.
