Rate the difficulty of medical school

Time for the annual update, as I'm only one rotation away from M4. I still concur with my original post, haha. Sure, it's challenging, but when it's what you want to do, it gives you the motivation. It's been a wild ride, and it's crazy to think that I've only got psych for 6 weeks, and then 7 months of M4 rotations, and it's over.

Relative to most other things in life that I've done, it's been quite difficult. Relative to how bad things could be, it's been great. One of my classmates is getting a divorce. That would be MUCH harder for me than this is.

Assuming you've got nothing crazy going on - break ups/family issues etc - which can make your med school experience exponentially harder...

MSI 4/10
MSII 6/10
USMLE Step 1 8-9/10 -> currently making my life miserable, so I may be biased.

That being said, it really depends on what school you choose and what kind of work/stress levels you can handle. Either way, totally worth it. 😎

I dont know if it was mentioned:

But its one thing just going/acheiving a lame/feeble pass grade or BOTTOM half of the class..

Versing doing an "Ultimate Osler" on everything!!!![You know a walking Harrison, great rapport, any award, etc..]

So some of these responses are very decieving!!👎

🙄 I see what you did there.

Definitely let your colleagues know how you feel. After all, it's irresponsible to sit back and let 8/16ths of the people you go to med school with be in the bottom 50% of the class.

overall if exam weeks in Undergrad were academically a 3, working 12-hour shifts five or six days in a row at the restaurant were a 5, and playing my senior music recital was a 7 (STRESS);first year of med school was a 1 most of the time, and around exams *maybe* a 5. Our exam week before christmas totally sucked, I'd say that one was a 6.

studying for M1 finals now... and I'm tempted to say my life sucks, but it doesn't.. it's pretty cool actually. livin the dream, 2500 pages of notes at a time... 😎

Yes, Im saying its irresponsible to strive for mediocrity or "half ass"..There are plenty of field were this is ok, but not medicine! 🙄

They knew I was mediocre when they let me in. Someone's gotta be in the middle. And, as always, some people consider their overall life to be a greater priority than learning everything there is to know about everything in medicine.

Who was talking about striving for mediocrity? 🙄 My class rank and board scores are doing just fine, thank you.

I agree with TheProwler's remarks. Ranking the years in relation to eachother, I would put from worst to easiest 2>1>3>4. Obviously this is subjective, and I haven't begun 4th year yet, but I enjoy clinicals so much better than book work.

Im not talking about you..We know you stand out..

I know I shouldn't do this. I know it. But I can't help myself. Until you can spell past the 4th grade level, you should rethink lecturing anyone on intellectual mediocrity.

Fin. 😀

Fortunately, as an attending, none of your notes need to be legible, and you dictate everything important anyways.
