rcsi 5 yr program 2009

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey that will be good. I know that many of us are looking for roommates too i.e. those who don't plan on studying in Mercer and Millian.
I need female roommates. I'm interested in an apartment with en suite bathrooms and own bedroom. It must also be walking distance from RCSI. Anyone who has identical desires and have an idea of an apartment available please message me!!!!😉

Hey, I am glad to find some more 5 yrs for this year. It would be good if we got to know a bit bout each other so we have people we know when we enter school.
I am from trinidad, in the caribbean, and if i make the grades of my condition, i will be coming to rcsi. I would like to stay in millin or mercer for the first year, to get to know people before moving into private accomodations for the rest of the course. (any advice on mercer and millin besides what the website has? where will you guys be staying?)

Message me if you have any questions as I have a friend in rcsi in year one med now, and a few family members who are passed graduates, so maybe i can clarify a few things if anything?

Hey trini, did they give you a conditional offer? they want to see your final grades?

I'm hoping we will get more 5 years to respond to this thread. How old are you trini?

Hey
I got a conditional offer, as I am still in my last year of secondary school
I am 18
I want to apply for accommodation soon, so i dont miss out , but i am still torn between mercer or millin.
I like millin more i think, but i still don't know?
any advice, or recommendations?
Where will you guys be?

from what I have read, Mercer seems to be the better choice. The way the floors are set up and the kitchen facilities etc. If you go back and read previous threads you will find info from other students.

alexc and kevdude
did u guys get offers? conditional or unconditional?
staying in mercer, millin or private?
where r u guys from?
.........................Just curious 😀

Just wondering if any one had an idea how and why the school year is like

ie. christmas vacation or any other breaks

also why does it start in October and in June as opposed to the regular Sept-may

hey trinimed, yes I got an offer, but not conditional, I suppose because I have had a few years of university. I am 21 and from Montreal. I'm not sure yet where I will be living, still trying to figure that out. But as I said before, Mercer is a better choice from what I've read.
Pgouda, did you have your interview?

Oh, in answer to the dates, europe generally starts later than NA, first day for me is Sept. 28. There are 2 weeks off at christmas time and again at easter. I'm not sure the last day of school in the spring.

No my interview is in a week and a bit, but I am for the 6 year program just to let you know

20 years old from Surrey BC (20 minutes from vancouver)

I have an unconditional offer.

Havent chosen where im staying yet. Prolly find an apartment near campus

hey guys. Resh here, starting RCSI in September 09'(28th..i think). well just came across the thread and thought it would be a good idea to join and get to knoe a couple of ppl who would be joining. Just wondering have u guys considered renting an apartment close to college or are u'll set on Mercer Court?well hope we stay in touch and more ppl start joining this forum...

resh, which program will you be in? 4,5 or 6yr. how old are you and where are you from?

5 yr prog.
18yrs...unconditional offer...from malaysia...

Hi Everyone,

Alex here, 27yrs old from Singapore. I have an unconditional offer from RCSI for the 5 year programme commencing Fall 2009. On top of that I am waiting on the results of my application to the GEP programme in RCSI and other Irish Universities.

I tried to look for a facebook group, but the closest one i found was for the RCSI GEP 2009 students. Anyways, I started a RCSI 2009 group real quick, and will be posting my research on accomodations and whatever else on there.

sigh....just received an email from RCSI to notify i'm on the waitlist of their applications...🙁

does anyone know what are my chances of getting in if i were in the upper part (first quarter) of the waitlist?
I don't know if i were in fact in the upper range of the waitlist but i just want to know my chance of getting in.

my stats: GPA3.86 (from 9th to 11th grade) and senior year 3.89 (i was transferred to an IB school from an AP school so the GPAs cannot add up), bunch of ECs and volunteer work, 5 on AP Bio 4 on AP Chem, and an expected grade of 38 on the IB (taking 6 subjects /42).

I would say your chances are excellent. Tbere are a lot of people with offers who are turning them down for financial reasons.

Thank you!!
I have to pay deposit to the University of Szeged (Hungarian med school) by June 22nd so i really hope that RCSI will give me an offer b4 that date.

Sincerely,

hey sillydog,
i agree,i say your chances are pretty good. i personally know a couple of ppl who were waitlisted and later offered a place so don't sweat it...😎

look forward to meeting u guys later this year. planning to rent out this 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment at Adelaide square...rent is 1600...so if it's split between two ppl,the the rent would be slightly lesser than mercer..
interested? the partment look real good..!

hey resh,

thx for the comfort.
Would you mind asking your friends when did they receive the offers from RCSI after being waitlisted?

I would love to NOT deposit to the Hungarian medical school before knowing the final decision from RCSI (not trying to criticize Hungarian medical schools or anything because they're great! i just prefer going to an English speaking country).
😀

Sincerely,

yeah, they didn't make the 1st rounds offer and were waitlisted. but after about 21days they received an Offer. first by email then post.
U should send the admissions office an email quoting your application no. and name. i'm sure they would let u know when they anticipate making future offers.
its worth a try...they usually get back to you pretty quick..
hope that helps

im on the 5-year course starting in september...but its conditional. I just finished high school (just finished my IB exams!)
anyone else here straight out of high school? im 18, and from hong kong

in answer to your question, generally, if you have had some university and have completed the science pre reqs but haven't graduated then you would be in the 5 year program, they give you a year for your science courses, otherwise you would have to go into the 6 yr program. If you have graduated university I believe you must apply to the 4 yr GEP program, but I am not positive about that.

Resh , I am from Malaysia too..

I was just wondering whether you did a-levels to get the unconditional offer.
Or did you use your SPM results ??
I have got all A1 for my SPM and am currently taking a gap year . I want to know whether it is possible getting in with just SPM results. If possible I want to avoid doing A-levels at all cost ....

alyssanatasha......
Well i did a 16 month "fast track" A levels (didn’t want to waste time on the 2 yr one). I See where your coming from as i did my IGCSE (international school) and got straight A* and A's for that but i couldn't apply with those results. Your best bet besides A’ levels would be SAM or ICPU. Both 1 year courses and relatively laid back compared to A’ levels. But just a reminder ICPU would only make you eligible for the 6 year program. But if you’re doing SAM then it would make you eligible for the 5 year program. Well I hope I answered your question. Basically NO you can’t apply with SPM results as you would have to do some kind of foundation study (for at least a year) Options? SAM, ICPU, STPM or A’ levels (which is what I did).

Anyone getting an appartment in adelaide square?

I'm going into the 5 year course in September too, though I'm not nearly as interesting as you guys, I just live 10 mins down the road from the college. Can't wait though 🙂

hey i got waitlist too sillydog have u heard anything yet??? im a UAE national applying for 5 year course i applied through the ministry of higher education as well as applying separately....done A levels ABBC and APs 5444....what r my chances of getting in im 18 years old btw....i need some reassurance!!!
