Hello All, I hope you guys are doing well!

Last cycle, I posted a WAMC thread, and since then, I have seen improvement in my application. I would like some help with my school list, if possible!

My application is pending verification, and my school list is at the end of the thread.

Here are my Stats:
- cGPA: 3.23; sGPA: 3.14; grad GPA: 4.00
- MCAT (5x Taker): 491x3 (2020, 2021, 2023) ; 497 (2024); 502 (2025)
- DC/Maryland/VA based

- ECs (Bolded my Most meaningful) 14 Total

    • Cancer Research Associate -> 3861 hrs completed + 2080 hrs Anticipated
    • Clinical Trial Coordinator -> 1600 Hrs
  • Shadowing
    • 120 HRS + 50 Anticipated
  • Research (Paid + Un Paid)
    • Study Coordinator 1 -> 1000 Hrs
    • Graduate Research Assistant-> 120 Hrs
      • Publication

    • Created Non-Profit Dance Team -> 1500 hrs completed + 250 anticipated
    • Other Leadership Hrs -> 2,362 Hrs
  • Other ECs Noted
    • Monthly Volunteer with Free Clinic in Undergrad (right before COVID) 35 Hrs
    • Student Internship in Undergrad where we worked to provide higher education opportunities to underrepresented high school students in the local city 600 HRs
MD School List
  • Charles Drew
  • Howard
  • Meharry (Did not receive secondary last cycle)
  • Morehouse
  • Thomas J Frist (Belmont)
  • Tulane
  • Wayne State University
  • Michigan State
  • Looking to add Rosslin Franklin Chicago, but worried about cutoffs
DO School List
  • Michigan State
  • Midwestern University (Glendale and Chicago campuses)
  • Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk
  • Meritus ( New DO School near home)
  • NYITCOM
  • Ohio University
  • PCOM (Philadelphia)
  • Rowan-Virtua
Please let me know WAMC in general, and if I could add any more schools, as I feel like my list may be too small. I have a VA residence, but I travel and have lived in DC and MD, so I would love to stay within the area.

Please let me know if you have any additonal questions.

Thank you!

What is your state of residence? It's going to make a difference if you answer DC, Virginia, or Maryland. What did you get your grad degree in?

Ohio University likes in-state Ohio applicants a lot. It's not to say you can't get in, but just be aware.

Thank you for your reply, Mr.Smile!

My state of residence is Virginia. My graduate degree was a Special Master's degree in biomedical sciences.

Understood. Do you have any recommendations for schools that I can consider other than Ohio University?

You are competitive for some DO schools and I suggest these:
WVSOM
UP-KYCOM
PCOM (all schools)
LECOM (all schools)
MERITUS
DUQCOM
LMU-DCOM (all schools)
BUCOM
ACOM
WCU-COM
UIWSOM
ARCOM
NYIT-AR
KCU-COM
TUNCOM
MU-COM
BCOM (both schools)
For MD schools I suggest these:
Howard
Meharry
Morehouse
Charles Drew
West Virginia
Eastern Virginia
Virginia Commonwealth
Roseman
Alice Walton
Belmont
Methodist (when it opens)
Drexel
Oakland Beaumont
Medical College Wisconsin
Indiana

Did you connect with SNMA or any of the mentoring organizations that support aspiring Black (male) physicians?

What do your master's program faculty suggest about your reapplication?

Hey Mr.Smile, thank you for your reply!

The Master's program faculty are encouraging me to apply this cycle broadly, so I am just trying to generate a realistic list with my stats.

I have been active in mentoring groups since last year, and they have been helping me with my application. Additionally, I have sent emails to faculty at some schools on my list and had meetings regarding my candidacy and application.
