I'm currently on 3 waitlists at allopathic schools but it's getting late and realistically there's a good chance I'll be re-applying. This time also to osteopathic schools, which I should have done but was too lazy.

Well, I guess I'll start with the stats stuff.
I took the MCAT three times: 24, 25, 29.
GPA sci/non-sci: 3.6
I volunteered a little bit, several years ago, but nothing profound.
I do NOT have a letter of recommendation from a DO physician.

As a NY resident, I'm thinking of NYCOM and PCOM, and maybe a couple others (any suggestions?)

Will my lack of a DO letter of rec be a severe impediment?

Also, how will it be viewed that I've already applied to allopathic schools? I'm honestly not one of those MD vs DO types, but will DO schools perceive this negatively?

Thanks

I'll play!

make sure you know what your getting into. Sounds a little more like a backup but hell...you said you were lazy 🙂 (for me it would have been cheap not lazy because those applications are ass expensive)

29 is good
3.6 is good
good EC's can be earned so go out and volunteer!
you don't need a DO letter except for a few schools like PCCOM or LECOM most accept an MD or DO letter...which is fine by me.

NYCOM has pretty sweet rotations. I had two good friends of mine graduate form there. They went into peds and EM respectively and thought the education was good. PCOM is in philly and rotates through philly hospitals.

In my opinion if you have a kicking MD letter....then its a resounding...NO.

(this does not count those few schools that force a DO letter)

I applied to both....got accepted to both...chose my choice based on my criteria I set out with at the beginning of my application cycle. My best advice here is to know the profession, shadow a DO, and have an open mind. Most schools know already that you applied to everywhere and that it is part of the game. If you get an interview then you know they are at least intertested in getting to know you.

For what its worth, Robz will respond to anybody's post. Hopefully he'll be too busy at NSU.
Seriously, depending on your age, family etc non-trad or trad graduate, its time to think of Caribbean schools for Jan 05. You still have time to apply. I'm headed to Caribbean Jan 05. You'll loose a year apply with no guarantees unfortutnately.
