Hello everyone!

I've been browsing SDN for a while, but this is my first post, so please forgive any large errors on my part.

I am a re-applicant this year currently on the waitlist for Wayne State (fingers crossed), and was hoping to get some advice on my MD school list from last year, and how to make a DO list (as I did not apply DO last cycle). So, that being said, here are my stats:
  • State of residence: WI
  • Cumulative GPA: 3.91
  • Science GPA: 3.91
  • MCAT Score: 510 (128/127/129/126)
  • Research: 180 hours of undergrad research, no publications
  • Volunteering (clinical) :
    • Marshfield Clinic: 141 hrs
      • This was connecting patients to community resources to improve health outcomes, and is a large part of my personal statement
    • Chippewa Valley Free Clinic: ~20hrs (ongoing)
      • Volunteer medical interpreter
  • Physician shadowing: ~20 hrs (various specialties)
  • Non-clinical volunteering:
    • Mission Trips: 100+ hrs (1 wk each summer for 7 years)
    • Spanish teacher/conversation facilitator: ~45hrs
  • Extracurricular activities:
    • Biology Tutor: 15 hrs
    • Fraternity involvement: 200 hrs
    • IFC involvement: 150 hrs
    • OoO Honors Society: 45 hrs
  • Other activities:
    • Study abroad: 80 hrs in the classroom (felt worth mentioning)
  • Employment history:
    • Plasma donation center: 420 hrs
    • Lab Phlebotomist (mostly working in ER) :1000+ hrs (ongoing)
    • Various on-campus jobs: 1500+ hrs over 4.5 yrs
  • Immediate family members in medicine? No
  • Specialty of interest: Many
In retrospect, the schools I applied to last cycle were based almost solely on MCAT/GPA requirements, so I understand my fault there, but this was my list last time:

Rosalind Franklin
Indiana University SOM
Loyola
Mayo Clinic (reach, I know)
MCW
Oakland University William Beaumont
Rush
UCF (sister in FL)
Carver
University of Michigan
U of Minnesota (both campuses)
UW SMPH (interviewed for the WARM program with no avail, and was also tried for regular MD)
Wayne State (on Waitlist)
WMed

As far as DO schools go, I have no idea, and any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for taking time to read and give me feedback! I truly do appreciate this.

Did you get other interviews last cycle? Do you have restrictions on number of schools you can apply to?

Add mid/low tier private schools throughout the country like Jefferson, Temple, Drexel, Cooper, NYMC, etc. I don't have a comprehensive list.

Thanks for the response! And yeah I interviewed at Madison for the WARM Program and at Wayne state - that's it. As far as the number of schools go, I don't want to go above 20 for the sake of time and money (I don't have a big boy job yet).

I suggest these schools with your stats:
U Wisconsin
Medical College Wisconsin
Wayne State
Rosalind Franklin
Western Michigan
Oakland Beaumont
Vermont
Quinnipiac
Albany
New York Medical College
Seton Hall
Drexel
Temple
Jefferson
Penn State
George Washington
NOVA MD
TCU-UNT
Eastern Virginia
Virginia Commonwealth
Apply to at least 6 DO schools and include schools such as CCOM, MUCOM, PCOM, DMU-COM, KCU-COM

Thank you for your quick response! I really appreciate the complete list, and hope to post an update in the not-so-distant future about the outcome 🙂

I suggest:
UCF (maybe)
U Toledo
U VM
Miami
Tufts
George Washington
Georgetown
SLU
Albany
Rush
Rosy Franklin
NYMC
MCW
VCU
EVMS
Wayne State
Wake Forest
Netter
Jefferson
Temple
Drexel
Creighton
Tulane
Loyola
Uniformed Services University/Hebert (just be aware of the military service commitment)
Oakland-B
Seton Hall
Nova MD
U WI
Any DO program. I can't recommend Touro-NY, Nova, Wm Carey, LUCOM, for different reasons. MSUCOM? Read up on Larry Nasser and you decide. LMU has an accreditation warning, which concerns me.
