I need some advice and guidance! I applied last cycle and I didn't get again (applied too late, October 2010). So, learning from the mistake I made last time, I'm going to apply ASAP but I'm not prepared to take the DAT until mid July. Would it be alright if I send my DAT scores from last cycle and indicate that I'm planing on reapplying? Also, would I have to re-create a new DENTPIN and etc. for the AADSAS portal? Finally, would it be in my benefit to redo a personal statement or semi-revise the last one. I ask the question for my personal statement because my adviser said the main reason that I didn't get in was because I was too late but know I'm not even sure what to do 🙁. I would appreciate any type of advice😀

Go ahead and submit your AADSAS application in June and e-mail the schools to let them know you will be re-taking the DAT in July (what are your DAT scores and GPA btw?). You won't have to create a new DENTPIN as the one you created originally will stay with you throughout your dental career. It would be advisable to modify your personal statement in ways that shows how you are an improved candidate from last cycle. It doesn't have to be completely redone, but I wouldn't use the exact same one. You can get it critiqued by your school, peers, professors, etc.

I was a reapplicant this year who applied very late last cycle. You do not need to make another DENTPIN. Apply early and let your new DAT scores catch up with your application. And the personal statement is kind of a matter of preference. From reading other threads on here over time, many people say they have used the exact same personal statement two years in a row. However, others have decided to write an entirely new one. I went with the semi-revise method and it worked out for me this year. Personally, I don't think the personal statement has too much to do with how competitive of an applicant you are, assuming that it is well written and, well, personal... At least personal enough to show that going to dental school has been a well thought out decision on your part. Hopefully there will be other larger changes in your application such as grades, research, volunteering, and other things of that sort which are probably more important.

If you had a good personal statement, why change it? Also the only time its a good idea to "change" the PS is if you did something to improve application from past year.... If you haven't done anything, you have no reason to change the PS.

Your DENTPIN stays with you for life. Just keep using the old one.

As far as telling schools your retaking the DAT.... thats a decision you have to make. Some people are against it because when you tell the schools, they might not review your application till retake is in. Others will tell your its a good idea (especially if you have a low DAT) because it prevents you from being rejected at first glance.

We can give you better advice if you tell us more about yourself: Whats your GPA and sGPA like? whats your current DAT? How many schools you plan to apply to?

Sorry for responding late... My DAT breakdown was as follows: PAT: 16 🙁, QR: 19, RC: 17, TS 19, AA 18. OGPA 3.4, sGPA 3.3

I applied to roughly 16 schools last cycle. So I'll probably apply to the same amount this cycle as well.
