I scored a 20+ in RC and this is what you need to do:

1) read the text as quickly as possible

2) make sure you comprehend the text; go over anything you did not really understand.

3) answer the questions

Don't know if this will help you, but I just read the questions first. Then I skimmed the passages for the answers. I'm not sure if this method works for everyone, but it worked for me to the tune of a 24.

I can't imagine reading comp. being so diff. the dat bas. wants to know that your not illiterate and that you can grasp basic textual sources. I think the best way from what I have done so far is to read the questions first or at least a few of them, that way you can have a better idea of what to look for when doing the reading. Another though.

I tried to give myself 18-19 minutes per passage, with 1 minute to go over problems I skipped.

If I couldn't finish the questions in that time, I would move on (takes some practice, but you can get to the point you're finishing before 19 mins per passage).

yeah, that's the biggest thing. Try DIFFERENT methods, and see what works the best for YOU.

95% of the DAT is just being prepared, and really does not test how smart you are. So be strict with yourself (a stopwatch works really well) and test out some different methods. I used Kaplan's reading passages from the blue book, and they were fine. Hope it helps!

This method got me a 24.

Read the passage VERY quickly. You'll get an idea of its structure but nothing too much more than that. This way you'll see whereabouts you should look for answers.

Most of the questions come straight from the passage. Just quickly locate the paragraph and you'll probably see the answer staring right at you. Don't spend too much time on a question.

Most of the time the questions are in order of the passage but not always. Keep it in mind though. Chances are your last 5 questions won't be from the beginning of the passage.

As you refer back to the passage try to remember what you read. Odds are you'll wind up coming back to some material you skimmed through for another question.

Budget your time wisely. With 60 minutes and 3 sections, try to spend 15 minutes per section then move on. Then you can come back to the rest at the end. Sometimes you'll have a really easy time with the 3rd passage but since you got there so late you aren't able to answer all the questions.
