Hey all,

Wondering if anyone could suggest any good books for outside reading that would help me improve as a small animal (dogs and cats) clinician. I'm not looking for an in-clinic reference book, but more like something I could read 20 minutes at home here and there to soak in some info. Ideally, this book would cover medicine and other stuff like client communication.

Thx, and happy holidays.

I'd recommend Low Stress Handling, Restraint, and Behaviour Modification by Sophia Yin. The techniques on handling dogs and cats in clinical practice are terrific, and the book includes a DVD manual as well. Sadly, Dr. Yin passed away this year; she made some terrific contributions to clinical medicine with her behaviour techniques.

I would say either a subscription to Clincian's Brief or Today's Veterinary Practice. I think you can get a free hard copy subscription to Today's Veterinary Practice if you're a vet student. Good toilet reading!
