This is kind of a weird one, but I'm honestly curious - for folks that wear makeup/cosmetics, do you wear it into the clinic/on calls? How much and how often, and what products do you use? Some vets I know wear daily full-face, and others are happy if they manage to brush their teeth and hair in the morning. I'd like to look a little less "death warmed over" when I'm actually talking to & interacting with clients, both on clinics and once graduated, but realistically I need a super minimalist routine. Give me your best!

I don’t wear makeup that often, but when I do it’s suuuuuper minimal. I use Bare Minerals powder foundation, their powder blush, and their powder mineral veil (helps absorb extra moisture) and thats about it. Takes max 2 minutes. I didn’t wear makeup on clinics nor do I on a regular basis while practicing, but that’s just not how I have ever functioned. Some of my classmates definitely wore makeup daily because they preferred to have themselves more done up than I did.

I work from home as a pathologist, so it’s a big day when I change out of sweats, put on “real” clothes, and fix my hair.

In everyday life I don’t usually bother with makeup except for special occasions when photos might be taken. When I was on clinics and seeing patients as an intern I didn’t wear much. Usually nothing on equine or food animal because the barns were often crazy hot and makeup would just get sweated off or wiped off after splashes. On small animal if I wore anything it was a tinted moisturizer and mascara and that’s about it.

I’m a makeup/skincare junkie and used to do a full face when I started vet school. These days I use concealer (as needed), foundation powder, mascara, and fill in my brows for a normal work day. I’m 33 and still sleep through all of my alarms so don’t have time to do much else, lol. Plus, I’m super oily so unless I am making a point to deal with that throughout the work day (and I’m not), I’d look much worse with sliding makeup than I do with the minimal routine. I don’t throw makeup on when I’m getting called in.

If you’re looking to experiment and build a routine, keep an eye on the NYX website. They do 40% off everything sales somewhat often and have good quality products for the price.

When I start a new job I usually try for a few weeks before my motivation fades and I become lazy again.

Generally for work if I am doing makeup I do concealer, neutral eyeshadow, mascara, eyebrow pencil, +/- blush or bronzer if I feel particularly motivated. One week I got crazy motivated and did foundation/contour.

Realistically I typically wake up with barely enough time to make coffee. So I rarely wear any at work nowadays unless I have a face of makeup left from an event the day before (that I was too lazy to wash off).

As a tech, I had to be at work early for ICU rounds for my department and such. I wish I had focused more on skincare back then, but I just slapped some foundation on my face. I also learned a trick with my blush - same blush that I use on my cheeks I do a little on my eyelids and it gives them some color. Top that off with a little mascara and a quick eyebrow pencil and I'd be good to go. I imagine I'll continue that if/when I start vet school. Right now I rarely wear makeup and I've done a lot more skincare so I'm happier going out without any foundation. Miranda Kerr did a video with Vogue maybe about her five minute face, anyway I watch those a lot and learn some little quick trick

Thanks y'all! I did discover a cream color corrector (Sigma Beauty Spectrum Color-Correcting Duo) that has two shades in each pallete that can be blended together to get you a natural-looking shade on your under eye circles (really my biggest issue/insecurity), plus I got a hydrating tinted BB cream, all of which I can literally put on with my fingers or a single brush. We'll see how that goes for a little while, and I might spring for microblading my eyebrows and tinting my lashes once I graduate. Thank you all again for the tips!

I get microblading (although it has been a while) and it definitely helps. I tint my own lashes/brows at home these days, you can get kits on Amazon for <$10!

Ooh I had no idea that was an option, I will absolutely look into that! Thank you!

I just put eye shadow and mascara on. I love painted nails but the acrylics really seem to weaken my nails and the other type of nail polish chips off so quickly when I’m in the clinic. Otherwise I’m a minimalist
