2.9 undergrad/science gpa large upward trend, 496 -> 503 MCAT, 5k clinical, 700 research, started non profit + 150 other volunteer, 100 shadowing, and a few other stuff/jobs, and my story includes my taking care of my severely autistic sister/working full time. Currently in an SMP at a DO school, its going okay but I recently found out I dont qualify for linkage becuase of their ugrad gpa requirement. I genuinely dont know what to do and am constantly comparing myself to others. I applied this cycle as a just a shot in the dark to all my local MD/DO schools and have one II at one of the DO schools. I'll be honest im not feeling super confident about the SMP and also crashing out about what I should be doing. I know my ec's are really strong but I dont know which direct to head in for my academics. I dont know how I should be preparing for reapp. is it possible to make it to an MD school or DO at this rate?

Focus on that one DO II and hopefully it will turn into an acceptance. All it takes is one anyways. I am sorry about your SMP. I would be frustrated too. They should be transparent about then linkage agreement and what that entails.

I would stop characterization as crashing out. My first thought was your failed out of your SMP.
Sure crash out is probably not the right term, but definitely freaking out about waiting and what comes next. I would hardly say failing out of my SMP, we've finished two classes so far one I got an A, and the other I got a B, which I know isnt great.

You have 1 interview with a DO program, which you admit was a reason why you took a chance at a SMP. Finish your classes strong and seal the deal with the interview, and you get into medical school.

With a 503 MCAT score, MD is going to be off the table. Unless you live in a very lucky state, like Arkansas Mississippi or new mexico.

You're fine for DO, so just keep on doing your best in the special Masters program. Cast a wider net nationwide, as well

Thank you for replying Goro! I live in PA and have really strong narative to the schools here/community involvement, any hope at any of the MD schools here? I submitted a few more DO school apps as well.

LECOM, Rowan, PCOM, MSU, UNECOM, CHSU, and Rocky vista montana, might add chicago
Add more schools this week to increase your chances for interviews and consider these:

People get into MDs with 503s, but they have faced incredible circumstances and factors well outside of their control like institutional racism, poverty, discrimination etc etc.
Mission fit helps when your stats are similar to other applicants outside of those circumstances, but it won’t put you ahead of someone with a 510. You also have to realize out of everyone else applying in Pennsylvania many will share similar fits and reasons for applying to schools. It’s always possible you’ll get an II, but until you get an A keep finding ways to improve your application.
