Hi guys,

So for the letter of recommendations, do any schools require that a specific question is answered for the letter of recommendation writers? I have 5 letters of recommendations in Interfolio all written at least 1 year ago because I thought they would write the best letters of recommendations right after I was finished with them and this way I wouldn't have to rush them in giving me a letter of recommendation during the period when everyone is asking for letters of recommendations. However, I asked all of my writers to just write a "recommendation" with no specific prompt. Therefore, I was wondering if some medical schools in their secondaries will give the letter of recommendation writer a specific topic to write about? I find this a little ridiculous because then I will have to give each of my letter of recommendation writer 20 different topics all in 20 different envelopes.

Your letter writers can just write whatever they want, and it's submitted to each school. I'm not aware of any specific requirements in regards to content.

Be aware, however, that your letters should be dated within the past year. If any are dated later than a year ago I would have your writers re-submit them (even if they contain the same information) with a later date on them. Old letters don't look good.

No school (of the dozens I've spoken with) requires specific issues be addressed in a letter of recommendation, I'd given some information to my LOR writers in the form of a paragraph sharing with them the areas important to schools that were not strongly addressed in other parts of my application, in the hopes that the letter writers would focus primarily on those partes.

(probably most letter writers have written a huge number of med school LORs and they wouldn't need any more info from the applicant)
