Research
-3 years part time during undergrad, research on brain cancer, 1 publication. Awarded a $3500 stipend for 10 week summer research program
-worked as a research specialist for 1.5 years, research on host microbe interactions with gut epithelial cells, 1 paper currently being reviewed for publication.
Clinical Experiences
-ER scribe 1.5 years
-Volunteer for clinical study on PTSD for 1.5 years where I interviewed hospital patients
-Shadowed 5 different doctors for 60 hours total
-Volunteered in hospital, assisting nurses- 6 months
Non clinical Volunteering
-Tutoring kids after schools-1 year
-Tutored refugee lady in English-1 year
Worth noting I had an honor code violation following my sophomore year in 2010. I know this is going to sink my app in many places.
It involved me having another student answer clicker questions for me when I skipped class one day. This is somewhat equivalent to having someone sign you in for attendance. I did have the professor who was involved write me a letter explaining the incident though.
Here is my list so far. Not really aiming high since sGPA is kind of low. I'm having trouble deciding which of the mid tier private schools to apply to because it seems like they all get close to around 10,000 apps a year and don't know what they specifically look for. The following are schools I'm considering. I'll probably add a few more, but ultimately want to narrow it down to around 30. Appreciate any input.
