Medical Mission to Peru Through Tom Cox World Ministries
-Our group worked together to set up medical and eye clinics each day for the people of Peru. I was
able to learn to take thorough patient history, perform general patient examination, and formulate
diagnoses and treatment plans for patients that I saw. My family doctor helped me with difficult
cases and ensured my plan of action was appropriate for the patients. We also engaged in
evangelistic activities at night.

You have a whole lot more extracurriculars than I did. I had a 3.75 overall with a 3.91 cGPA and a 3.69 sGPA with three MCATs (1st attempt: 6 PS, 10 VR, 11 BS. 2nd attempt: 6 PS, 10 VR, 10 BS. 3rd attempt: 9 PS, 10 VR, 11 BS). First application I received no interviews. Second application I received three interviews and one pre-match offer. Only applied to state schools (Texas resident) both times. In my personal opinion, I would say that as long as you sell yourself well in your personal statement, you should at least score some interviews. At that point, you really have a fighting chance unless you totally flub it on during the interview.

Thanks for your input! I feel good for the DO schools and I have had many great shadowing experiences with DO's and a LOR from one. Even though I fell just shy of the coveted 30 I think/hope I have a fighting chance at MD's also. Either way I will be happy, as long as I am a doctor in the end that is all that matters to me! 🙂
