Hi there,

Thanks for reading this and for any advice you guys may have for me.

Here's my stat:

I'm Canadian, so my overall average is 79%, sciences is a bit lower @ 78%. I have taken the MCAT twice, first time got 35R, second time got 37S. So my strong point is there, and not my academic record. I've done an undergraduate thesis, as well as some research experience. Volunteered pretty extensively, both within the health care system, and without.

I've applied to Canadian schools, and didn't get past the interview stages. I've applied to some US schools as well, and did not get past the secondary application point. I've applied to a few pretty good schools like NYU, Boston U, etc, which in hindsight, might be my downfall.

I've been accepted into the Caribbean schools, St. George's and Ross etc.

My questions are:

1. Should I reapply this year? I'm planning to reapply to a few Canadian schools while going through 1st year in the Caribbeans, and I know US schools start their application cycle alot earlier, so any advice would be appreciated. Is it a good idea to apply while in med school? Any chance of transfer (I've had a friend of a friend who managed to transfer after 1st from St. George's, wondering how likely this is)?

2. What's a decent school that accepts international students? Based on my stats, I've looked at the MSAR book. Not many schools seem to take alot of international students. Any recommandations?

Thanks again for reading, and thanks for any advice.

Wow, those are good MCAT scores, but unfortunately the sub 3.0 GPAs are going to kill you for allopathic schools. Have you looked into any of the SMPs (i.e. Georgetown, for example)? Is the low GPA due to early bad grades? Do you have a positive trend over the last couple of years?

In the sense of the Caribbean, my impression is that SGU might be your smartest bet. Have you looked on the Caribbean thread here on SDN?

As a Canadian, it might be your best bet and from what I've read, there seems to be a lot more financial support for you down there, and a lot more welcoming to Canadian students.

Best of luck:luck::luck::luck::luck:

Have you tried DO schools in the U.S.?

What is your actual GPA? We admitted a student from University of Manitoba couple years back where anything above 80% = A, and we went according to his letter grade scale only. If your school does the same thing, your GPA could be as high as a 3.8-3.85 on an american scale.

Keep in mind that Canadian's aren't considered to be "international" students. at some schools.
