Hey guys, I am still on the wait-list at Wayne State, but want to be sure to apply early just incase its needed.

I've graduated with a B.S in chemistry and I am a Michigan Resident

My stats are 3.82/3.79 gpa, 34Q 11/9/14.
I have 2.5 years of research with 3 publications, 1 second author and 2 3rd authors.
I was VP of my frat
President of another organization
Member of a couple other organizations and have won awards from them
Tons of non-clinical volunteering (over 750+ hours)
Volunteered at a local free clinic (60 hours)
Volunteered at two hospitals (50 hours each)
Shadowed a surgeon once
Shadowed an EMT
Worked as an Analytical Chemist for a summer
Looking to pick up more clinical experience

I think thats about it. Last cycle I decided to apply only to a couple of schools. I got rejected from northwestern, pritzker, and umich post sec, and waitlisted at Wayne State. I thought that wayne state would be a guarantee, but clearly that wasn't the case. This year i plan on applying more broadly but still in the area.

I was thinking
Wayne State
MSU
UMICH
OSU
UToledo
Loyola
Northwestern
Rosalind
Univ of Illinois
Rush
And probably MSU-DO just incase.

What do you guys think i should work on to make me look better or any other suggestions for schools.

Considering your first MCAT was 30 with a verbal of 7, and the repeat wasn't available until August, I guess that's a possible explanation for your lack of an acceptance this last season. Congratulations on the new improved score. Things should go better for you this year, especially if you follow the SDN maxim of "apply broadly". Your extracurriculars look fine. I'd add maybe five more schools in your range so you don't have to do this again in a year. Check the School Selection spreadsheet stickied at the top of this forum for more ideas.

More clinical experience, make sure your personal statement "sells" you well, and apply early. Agree with adding perhaps a few more schools.

Thanks guys! yeah my first mcat was not the best, i kinda wish i voided because i knew my score wasn't going to be what i wanted.

I am hoping to volunteer about 8 hrs/week for the next couple of weeks and apply in June instead of August this time. Also i got busy with work last year and didn't send my secondaries until the beginning of october, which probably also hurt me a bit.

Lesson learned. You should be fine this time around with an early application.
