I had a few questions on what I should do. I am currently on alt list at NOVA but I want to reapply early. I feel like I had a few weak points in my app
  • only applied to 2 schools
  • applied late (primary verified nov 18th)
  • 3.26 gpa (3.0 sci but was 2.95 before last semester grades)
  • failed orgo 2 (had a D at time of interview and currently retaking now)
  • few extracurriculars
  • applied DO with only MD letter

So far I've done a few things and am working on some things to improve myself

  • joining up with American Diabetes Association to volunteer
  • Met with a Dr. Luis Romero that specializes in nutrition and medicine that will allow me to volunteer within the next month (www.humanitausa.org)
  • got a B in phys 2 and will pass orgo 2 this semester so my sci gpa will go up a little
  • Plan on taking biochem in summer1
  • Apply as early as possible
My question is, is this enough for reapplication or would I need to make some more significant changes to my app? I think that applying much earlier and to instate schools will help a lot, plus passing that course that I failed will be good too. I got a 28S on MCAT and I am still debating whether I should retake it (Really didn't study that hard and hadnt taken phys2 or passed orgo 2 when i took it). What are some other things that I can do to improve me real fast? how do schools look at you when you reapply to that school while on their alt list for previous cycle? Is it better to complete the summer undergrad course before applying in order to have a grade to show them?

Other info: i'm an L.P.N. and have been working for 3 years (since age of 19) Florida resident and I an anthropology major. And I'm an African American male, so I guess I'm considered URM
