I applied late last cycle (late august, some of my rec letters only arrived mid November), I didn't put a lot of focus on filling my experiences/ activities which is why I only got one interview (waitlisted).

This year I'm much better prepared and have everything sorted out. I have the AMCAS application ready and will start working on the secondaries soon.

I would appreciate any input on my school list and if you can spot any red flags I should address.

-330+ hours of hospital volunteering (Clinical Care Extender)
-50 hours of shadowing
- Six months of research
- Six months of tutoring for UCSB (non science)
- 2 years of team management experience (Not healthcare related)
- Foreign military service (3 years)
- Brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (7+ years)


Rec letters: Three from science professors, one from an English professor, one from a doctor I shadowed, and one from the assistant director of UCSB tutoring services.

No, I was a part of a foreign military. I wasn't born in the US, I moved here before I started college.

Delete:

University of California-Riverside School of Medicine (unless you have a demonstrated commitment to the IE)
George Washington University Sch of Med & Hlth Sci (> 14K aps)
Georgetown University School of Medicine (>13K aps)
Howard University (check the demographics)
Mayo Medical School (very small class size, almost 5k aps)
University of Missouri - Kansas City (OOS matriculants are special programs)
University of Washington School of Medicine (not WWAMI)

You should be fine for DO schools. For MD you have a good list but too many OOS public schools that give preference to their own residents. You could delete:
Iowa
Kentucky
Indiana
Washington
Missouri
Mayo is a reach and Howard accepts mainly URM.
Schools you could add instead where you would be competitive for an interview:
Hofstra
New York Medical College
Albany
Drexel
Temple
St. Louis
Creighton
Loyola

I'll take out UCR, Missouri, Washington, Howard, and Kentucky. Instead, I'll add Albany, Hofstra, Loyola, Creighton, and Drexel.
