Is there a greater chance of acceptance if adcom see an applicant is reapplying?

If any of you have heard any official or unofficial talk in regard to this matter, please share.

I think that this mainly depends on the applicant, and for what reason you did not gain admission the first time around. I will be a reapplicant this coming year, and the reason I did not gain admission the first time around is that my undergrad GPA was too low, so I got into a master's program and worked on improving my grades and showing I have the ability to handle tough science classes. It depends on what your negatives were the first time around.

I am a reapplicant who just got accepted to a dental school. I had a low undergrad gpa and average DAT scores. I went into a masters program upon graduation from undergrad and that seems to have helped a lot. I worked really hard to show I could handle upper level coursework and it worked for me.

I think working hard and improving your grades (if thats the problem) helps a lot, it shows dedication and committment to dentistry. However, don't just reapply automatically without bringing something more to the table, as it would likely be a waste ( I skipped one application cycle to show a trend in my masters grades).

I'm a reapplicant and ended up with 8 interviews and more then half the time; it was news to them I was reapplicant. So maybe they just don't pay that much attention to that detail on the AADSAS application. Anyway I got accepted and I don't think it played a role. I was a late applicant last year and an early applicant this year.

Im a reapplicant as well, and on one of my interviews I got "you really did much better on the DAT this time around and improved your application" comment, so I guess they do know, how much consideration they give it I have no idea. I have heard that schools like reapplicants, because it shows your dedicated to becoming a dentist (you didnt get in, so you kept trying) because its something you really want to do, instead of giving up and finding a new career. Thats just word of mouth tho.

Wow, are you Canadian or Brittish? I love favour, colour etc. Anyway, I think persist. pays off in the eyes of interviewers if you have a moderate to good application.

I'm canadian; you can imagine the harder coarse for us as we're considered "international" (even though Canada is U.S. junior).

are you canadian-canadian or international-canadian? and canada is NOT US jr.

I'm initially from the great land of Pakistan. Canada is a great country; there is nowhere else i'd rather want to live in north america than toronto.

I am a reapplicant for this year as well. I did not get accepted last year because of my PAT score. I retook the DAT and improved 3 points on the PAT, 3 points on the Bio, and 3 points on the Math. I also started working in a Community Dental Clinic, which has more than quadrupled my dental experience. I have not yet been accepted this year, but hopefully soon! In my case, since I am a reapplicant I thought that would help as well, but it hasn't as of yet.

In general, I would say applying a second time around shows determination, but make sure you also improve your application.

It is hard getting into d-school as a Canadian bc there are so few up by you. We are lucky to have 50-some schools here to choose from. ay?

i assume if you are canadian than you are watching the NHL skills competition and not State of the Union...

yep; watching skills competition. although the event isn't what it was back in the mid 90's.

US Schools that take out of state residents don't glance over at all, and even if you apply to private schools, from my experiences this cycle, they don't really give a fair consideration to those not living in the States.

But i guess you can't blame them because why would they want to give away a seat to a person who might have trivial visa issues? 🙁 Worst scenario's when you're living In a state but are still Canadian and everyone ignores you because your Canadian high school may not have really taught u to speak proper English! 🙄

best skills competition moments:
1. Annually - Bourque's mastery of shooting accuracy comp
2. 1993? Al Iafrate's 105 mph shot
3. 1986 All-star game in Hartford where entire campbell conference startes were edmonton oilers (i was there!)
