Hi everyone,

I've been lurking for a while now, and I would like some advice. I basically decided in Feb 2003 that I wanted to go to dental school. I was encouraged to apply, in 2003 so I did. Unfortunately, my DAT in August 2003 didn't go as well as I had hoped (scores were all weird, with a range from 12 to 29) because I was nervous. I retook the DAT in January, and I was consistent, but I know I could do better. Kaplan tests have been 19-21 in all science, with 21's and above in PAT, reading, and Math. Just nervous, I guess!

My current stats are:

GPA : 2.95
(Last three semesters all grades were above a B, lowest semester gpa was 3.45)

DAT January 2004:

Bio 17
Chem 19
Ochem 14
Math 23
Reading 26
PAT 17

I obviously need to retake the DAT, which I am scheduled for the end of July. Right now I am studying about 10 hours a day until my test. I intend to score above 20 in all sections.

There's more to the story though. I actually was supposed to get my BS in Molecular Biology in May 2003, but postponed because it was too late to apply for a MS in the fall. I postponed again this year because I didn't get in. I have work experience in teaching, hospital volunteering, and as a lab technician.

My grades have definitely gone up since last year. I have shadowed dentists over the course of the year. I have taken 2 DATs, both of which were sub-optimal. Otherwise though, my application is pretty much the same.

My question is this: how much should my essay change from what I submitted last year? I would like to submit my application early.

dds hopeful,
let me know when you find out. I'm in a similar boat. I applied to OSU dental hygiene like my soph. yr...didn't get in...changed my major to finance....few months before graduation decided that dentistry was my true passion and began prereq....didn't get in for this fall...so I'm preparing to apply for fall 2005. I'm sending my app next week! For my essay... I'm keeping some of the ideals the same...but I'm emphasizing my passion, how I've reinforced that since the rejection. Good luck!!!
