so I know its slightly taboo to reapply md only after you've got an acceptance but I was wondering about reapplying md/phd with an md/phd acceptance. i ask this because I have a few acceptances, but my husband's professional field is really limiting in where he can work. meaning if he can't get a job where i am accepted i can't go.

so if i were to apply again and be accepted to places where there are higher job opportunities for him (ie places that I did not get accepted this year) would my reasoning suffice for reapplication?

i know this situation sounds weird but i was very ill-advised throughout this process and some of my acceptances, while in job-friendly places, are not good research schools. would this also stand as a valid reason for when I reapply to schools of a higher caliber that are within the same area?

any input is appreciated. the cycle did not play out as I (or my unqualified advisor) predicted and I'm trying to do what I can now to rectify the situation. thanks.

If you are willing to take chances and go through the process again, go for it, but there is no guarantee that next year will turn out any different.

I turned down an acceptance and reapplied. I did much better the second time around. As long as you a) have a good reason to decline and b) do something constructive during your time off (fill in some gaps in your app) then you'll do just fine. PM me if you want to know more about my experience.

I can relate to your situation fairalexfield. In my case I have a deffered in-state MD admission, but reapplied to better schools for MD-PhD programs, and I have an interview for an out-of-state MD-PhD program! If accepted to the latter I will drop my MD admission!
