Hi everyone,
I am currently wait listed for one school and am getting ready to reapply next year. My gpa is 3.4 and 3.2 Science and dat is 19/19/17 (all science and RC all above 19). I was thinking about getting a job as a dental assistant for my year off. I have decent ECs (alot of research, shadowing, and community service). My question is, should I retake the DAT in August and still submit my application the first week of June? I'm just worried that schools won't even look at my application until they get my new DAT scores. Any advice?

what do you have to do to be a dental assistant. is it true that its harder to get a job as a dental assistant if you're a guy?

And you think getting a job as a dental assistant will wow adcoms?

do you think thats a helpful answer?

lol yeh toothache's comments do come off a bit sarcastic, but what he was really trying to say is that the OP is better off spending this year off doing something more valuable toward his application like bumping up that GPA (post-bacc would be perfect here)

To OP: I dunno if I would retake a 19/19/17... I think you should just apply early this year and indicate in your application that you are going to take some upper level sciences during the fall & spring semesters

Thanks everyone for the helpful info!

Snaggletoof- I think most dental assisting jobs just look to see if you've had a little experience working in a dental office, and I don't know if its harder to find a dental assisting job if you're a guy..

Taking upper-level science classes is a good idea, but won't dental schools not even look at your application until those grades are in?
