I took the DAT this past summer and scored mediocre 18AA and a rc of 16.

I had three interviews but no acceptances and this was probably due to my DAT score b/c I have a 3.7 sci and 3.8 overall gpa.

I know I can do better on the rc section, I just got the crazy ethics passage which really screwed me up. It had 22 paragraphs and the ethics was the first passage which really messed my timing up.

I will be retaking the DAT in the summer, but don't think I will be able to take it until sometime in July to be fully prepared. I was wondering if you all think this is a good idea. Turn in everything when addsas opens up in June with my old DAT score and then update when I retake. This will allow me to be in the first batch and have possible earlier interview dates.

when you turn in your AADSAS with your old score and not tell the school that a new score is on its way, the adcoms will review your app with the old score and probably won't make a difference from this cycle.

when you tell the school that you have a new set of DAT scores coming in, then the admissions holds your application until the score comes in through AADSAS. it will not be forwarded to the adcom, thus it is the same as submitting it later. I recommend submitting the app with the new DAT score. I had this problem this year, some schools did not hold the application and went under review. In December 2010, one school noticed (they only knew cuz I kept checking with them) that my second set was NOT in the file. From that school, I just received an interview today.

FYI, I submitted my AADSAS June 8th; after my DAT re-take (late July), AADSAS finally sent another batch to my designated schools on 8/20/10. my first interview came in October (for november date). My fifth one came in today which was from MWU-IL. I recommend you to take it earlier and submit it earlier if you want to make it to those pre-dec interviews.

I don't have first-hand experience with what your trying to do here (Applying in June but retaking DAT in July).... but if you can't get the same level of preparation before July, then I say.... go for it.

Its not the best plan, but it ain't bad either.

My personal opinion is that if you get an interview then your scores are ok. Unless they interview everyone, When they want to interview you they are saying you look good on paper now they want to see how you are in person. Or maybe they want to give you a chance to justify yourself. If you can put the right spin on it you can make it not as important and hightlight the parts of your application that are more important ie. volunteer, experience grades. I would suggest working on interview skills.
Just a thought. Good Luck.

I agree with masscrash. There must be something else if you got 3 interviews with those scores and no acceptances. If you've already been officially rejected, it might be worth it to call the schools and ask them what you need to improve upon.

The DAT score and GPA are important aspects of your application but other things count. I say call the schools and inquire what you could improve on, it might be the DAT or maybe not.

I think applying early and then taking the DAT is an ok idea. That is what I did, applied in june and and took the DAT after. But its better to have it in as soon as you can with your application.

Thanks for your opinion about calling the schools to see where I lacked. I also think that my 16's with rc/pat/qr probably didn't help either.

I think they probably saw all those 16's and couldn't really give me an acceptance with many other applicants being more well rounded on the DAT.

I definitely think a major deal breaker was the 16 on RC/PAT. With all the competitive scores now, you are fighting an uphill battle. You will experience a delay if you apply in June and take the DAT in July. It takes AADSAS about 3-4 weeks to receive your new scores and then the typical AADSAS mailing delay.

The ideal plan would be to retake the DAT and not apply till AADSAS has received your new high scores. What you really need to do is achieve some serious competitive scores to displace your first test scores. Good luck!
