Hello all,
I am planning to reapply DO schools this summer. I bombed the mcat 22R on 3rd try and GPA 3.4. Graduated 2001 and working at UTSW as a national liver disease coordinator for almost 3 years. Hopefully will have 2 publications and have 5 abstracts out. I have two questions.

What do you think are my chances?????

HOw do LOR work if you have been out of school?

Was your 22R an improvement over your last MCAT score? If you read through some of these postings, you will see a number of people that have been accepted with similar qualifications.

I would also suggest you look at mdapplicants.com. On this site you can enter MCAT and GPA's and see what schools students where accepted and their respective qualifications.

Retake the MCAT, plain and simple. A 22R isn't competitive and you should easily be able to improve if you put the effort into studying. I would plan on the April MCAT as that will greatly enhance your chances of acceptance with earlier scores. Shot for a minimum of 26 and I would rather hear of you scoring a 30+. Having research and publications definitely helps as I speak from first hand experience.

As far as the LOR, just attain one from a DO, the professor you are currently working under and one individual from your undergraduate institution if possible.
