I've good things from a couple people about RecallPlus, but I was wondering if any more of you had experience with the program and thoughts about whether its worth it. If you bought the program, which edition did you buy?

Thanks!

I bought the expert edition and I use the program for everything in med school. A couple of my classmates use the free version as far as I can tell. There are some tricks to using it, such as knowing what to put in there (keep it very simple) and how to use it efficiently (you could waste hours make pretty diagrams if you use it incorrectly).

Slightly off-topic ... is there a program like this for Mac? Everything these days seems to not run on my beauty. (Damn you, Netflix 🙁)

Could you expand on this a little? I'm using the free version happily (but am just starting to get the hang of some of the fancy features) and it has worked out to be sort of a graphical outline program (that allows some nonlinear associations, unlike an outline.) I was considering purchasing one of the other versions, but am wondering if they are really worth it.

More directly, how do you use recallplus, besides as a sort of graphical outline program, to justify its price? (over something like OneNote, which I got for "free" with Office 2007) I'm a visual/kinetic learner, so making the concept maps (graphical outlines essentially) is definitely helpful for me.

Thanks

Have you checked out iFlash? Not quite the same, but definitely very helpful! 🙂

Yes, true. A big advantage is that that you can also use the negative images to cover up labels and the program tracks what you don't know and tests more frequently on the things you know poorly.

Your visual outline analogy is good. They are called concept maps, which are good for memorizing.

With respect to MAC: It's my understanding that you can use VMWare or bootcamp to run windows programs on a Mac ... correct? I haven't tried it with RecallPlus.

OncoCaP is definately correct. If you're going to try to put everything on lets say a Histology lecture in RecallPlus.. well forget it. Oh yeah, you'll know it like the back of your hand but it'll take you a very very long time!

I bought the expert as well. No real logic. I think the $50 edition should be good enough. The only reason I went up to the expert was because of the test tracking feature it has, but I don't see myself using it even. So, no point, just get the one step above LITE. (The testing feature is awesome, but I find it a bit annoying at times.)

I have a question while we're on the topic. Is there anyway to place an image on a card and have it stay there, permanently. I want to put a picture on a card, but I want to put lables all around it (for anatomy). If the picture isn't there, I wouldn't have a clue as to what I'm suppose to recall. Anybody?

Yup. Excellent points. I like the testing feature, but it's not for everyone.

As far as your question goes, I think want to do is this: just right-click "make unselectable" Also be sure and use the negative images. To select an unselectable image, you make unselectable images selectable. I think this is what you are referring to. Also, RecallPlus has its own discussion board where the support tends to be decent, as far as I can tell.

Awesome OncoCaP! Thanks for your help. I have it down now 👍.
