Hi everyone,

I would appreciate your expert opinion on the different types of whitening products out there.

I know about the "1-hour" treatments like Zoom, Brite Smile, etc - and was wondering which of these are the best. --Mianly which one(s) whiten your teeth the most and which ones cause the lowest amount of tooth sensitivity?

How are the take-home tray kits. For an economical approach, my dentist recommended Nite-white or Day-white by Discus Dental - is it any good? I know there is opalescence and Rembrandt also - which one(s) of these are best.

Please let me know as soon as you can!

They are all pretty similar, you want a custom tray to keep saliva out, a 10-15% peroxide soln if you are going to take it home. Overnight kits just have an additive to slow the reaction. The sensitivity experienced will differ with the person, if it hurts cease treatment. That nite white looks fine, would do the 10 or 16%, not the 22% though.

Next time you want to solicit medical advice on this forum, I suggest you ask the question in a manner that makes it at least appear that you are trying to learn something for a class...

While we are on the topic of whitening, has anyone made custom bleaching trays for themselves or friends/family in dental school? I'm wondering how good they actually are..

They are the same trays your family or friends would get from their own dentist...are easy to make too, only take a few minutes provided that you have a cast made.

Nite-white or Day-white sucks! It's way to runny and just runs out of your tray. Opalescence is a lot more viscous and remains in the tray. As far as in office, the light that comes with ZOOM is bogus, check the research. It just dehydrates the tooth making it appear whiter, but then when it rehydrates the tooth bounces back to a darker color. Look into Ultradent's Opalescence BOOST, no phony light needed.

Talk to me in class, I can get you what you need and tell you how to do it. I already hooked up the Muffin man. 👍

So what is the Opalesence Boost thign about --- do you use that with a laser or is it some sort of gel.

Why not use the 22% stuff?
