I have a quick question ] regarding letters of recommendations. I have four people who are willing to write me letters. Three of these are from my undergrad lab (all professors with PhDs) and one from my current lab (MD). I was thinking of diversifying/rotating them (ei - so no person is writing letters to all my schools) but I was wondering if it would look strange that no one from my current lab is writing me a letter for some of the schools i apply to

If I should def. have someone from my lab write me a letter, would it be bad if I asked a post-doc? I really don't want one person to write me letters for all my schools (although I have no reason to think they would write me a bad one, for some reason I just don't feel comfortable with that)

Only ask 3 people. It takes hours to write a LOR, and only an hour to submit that letter to like, 12 schools. Asking someone else is a waste of their time and yours, and will also create logistical nightmares for you as you have 4 people to manage by the deadline, all with a different list of schools. Don't do it.

I'd ask the MD from your current lab and 2 people from your undergrad lab. Pick the two people from your undergrad lab who will complete the diversity of your LORs. For example, if one saw you work with patients and another research, that would be perfect. If one saw you design studies and the other saw you do data analysis, then that would be perfect. Make sense?

Don't ask the post-doc when you have an MD and 3 PhDs to choose from.
