I am a Texas resident and plan to apply to schools outside of the state. What are some recommendations on top schools if I have normal stats. DAT AA19/TS19/PAT20(the drop of score due to a 16 on OChem even though I did well and got awards for being an outstanding OChem student) and GPA of 3.7. I am not looking for schools like Harvard, but more like schools with a good reputation of getting people into residencies and specialties.

I heard good things about UPenn and UPacific.

Would my stats be affected because I go to a small private school compared to well-known schools like University of Texas or A&M?

I don't really get what schools you are looking for. Harvard is the perfect example of school with good rep of getting people into specialties.

I dont think my Stat would cut it for a seat in harvard. Maybe a school more in my range with those score and GPA.

You're a shoe-in at San Antonio. Why not apply there?

I am applying to all Texas school. I am looking for possible schools outside Texas that may have more prestige. Is it worth going out of state and paying 3-4 times as much? Or should I just look for backup schools outside of Texas and not worry about overpriced yet well-known schools?

I would just stick with the state schools. How much is prestige worth? Does it make a difference if you graduate from a "prestigious" school?

I believe your scores are good for Texas schools and you have an opportunity of being a Texas resident as these schools like Baylor are one of the cheapest schools in the country with good reputation and best thing for you is they accept most of the in-state residents.

Retake the DAT if those schools are your dream schools. Both of those schools have a DAT average of 21, and I believe UoP (and many schools) have a cutoff of 17 for each individual section. It shouldn't be a problem for you to increase your OChem score since you are an All-Star OChem student, right?

Your GPA is good. The school you went to is fine. Your best shots are your Texas schools, Houston, San Antonio, and Baylor. You're also in good shape to get into out-of-state private schools as well. However, you may need to retake the DAT if you're shooting for schools that have a 20-21 DAT average; if you're not picky than your current score is probably fine.
