So most D.O. schools "highly recommend" that you get a letter from a D.O. that you shadow. I wanted to do this, but can't because I have a full-time job and my boss would go crazy if i told him i'd take off work once a week to shadow some doctor. My question is, does not having a letter hurt your chances? After all, I got a letter from my boss who is an M.D. (even though i do lab work). Advice will be greatly appreciated! 😀

Some schools seem to absolutely require DO letters. However, there are schools that will substitute DO letters with MD letters.

I did manage to get accepted without DO letters. Schools that don't require DO letters are (the ones that I know of):

CCOM, Western/COMP, NYCOM, PCOM, TCOM, KCOM, and MSUCOM.

Well, there are some schools I already applied to that prefer a physician LOR. One school absolutely requires it... hopefully the one from my boss will work?

I have four interviews so far and I only had an MD letter. So for sure, Midwestern, Western, Touro, and WVSOM, don't care.

You have to have a DO letter for VCOM and LECOM. I thought when i applied you also had to have one for WVSOM.

and you need one for OSUCOM. DMUCOM's weird in that your letter doesn't have to be from a physician at all -- they just want a letter from someone familiar with your medical experience so a past supervisor would work.
